I just heard about this, and must admit I'm intrigued. I've never been a huge fan of home parties, but the idea of having a private winetasting at someone's house sounds kind of fun. I'm going to one this Saturday, put on by The Traveling Vineyard. I guess you go, taste and learn about the wines, then order some if you like them, and they also have wine accessories too, like wine charms to mark your glass, so when you set it down at a party, you'll know which glass is yours. My sister barely even drinks wine, but thought wine charms were the coolest thing. She gave them out at Christmas to everyone. Meanwhile, I've been drinking wine for years, and didn't have any charms. I do now of course, thanks to my sister.
So, my question is, have any of you heard of The Traveling Vineyard? Or gone to a tasting at anyone's home? Considering that they are based in my state, and are backed by Geerlings & Wade, who have been selling wine nationwide for years, I was surprised that I hadn't heard of them until now. I used to belong to The California Wine Club, and loved it. Every month I'd get a new shipment of two bottles of wine, along with a newsletter and recipe ideas. So, I'm curious to see what these wines are like.

So how did the party go? Is this like Avon for wine? Did you manage to try some good wines?

The party was really fun! Yes, it is very much like Avon for wine. We tried six wines, three I didn't love, but three I did, especially the chianti. It was a fun way to 'try before buying' because the wines I liked were not the ones I expected to like. You just never know.

I was intrigued too from something I read on another message board. But unfortunately, The Traveling Vineyard wasn't in my state of South Carolina. But... 2 weeks ago the company emailed me and said the door is open!
Since there are no Wine Reps in my state, I decided to become one! Why not? First tasting is Friday! Can't wait. Looking at these wines in my kitchen are killing me!
